(near the N.Y. boarder) from a Mrs. Emma Helme Garrison. 1897-98-Rent was $200 a year. Paid by paying the taxes, some cash, and materials to keep up the farm; labor not included. 1899-04-Rent was $%225; same metnod of payment. 1906-16-Rent was $100 plus taxes. He usually gave her more but always under $200. Still no labor counted. Morris made his money by selling: butter, eggs, wheat, corn, cider, lard, buck-wheat, potatoes, oats, apples, hay, straw, pigs, calves, hides, and and, in the early years tobacco was a big cash crop; making as much as $447.41 a year. In 1902 hebegan selling milk by the can eventually becoming the biggest money-maker. This same year his son, William S. Knapp was living with them. His highest income was in 1906 ($1733.59) |
